Why You Should Invest Your Money In Travelling

"I need a six month holiday, twice a year" - sound familiar?

This year more than ever, an urge has come over me to pack my suitcase and book holiday after holiday after holiday. Being a student however, it's hard to find the spare money for a weekly meal shop, never mind an overseas holiday. But this year I've realised just what's worth saving and spending my money on- and travelling is definitely one of them! And I'm not meaning a holiday to Aiya Napa or Ibiza...

It Allows You To Take A Break From Reality and Refresh
The thought of being able turn your phone off and truly disconnect from reality for a few days is something many people long for. Taking a few weeks or even a long weekend just to unwind is crucial for the your mental well-being. It has been scientifically proven that people who spend their money on experiences over materialistic objects are happier and more content with where they are and what they have. Not only that but travelling can promote internal reflection and realisation of just what has been clouding your mind.

Endless Memories.
If you're one to spend a lot of money on nights out, and constantly adding styles to your wardrobe (guilty), there's only a matter of time before the memories of those nights out all blur into one (if you even remember the night in the first place), and those new clothes become dated and replaced. Creating memories from travelling which will stay with you forever will be much more rewarding to show for your spending.

Quality Time.
Travelling with someone else means you can share lifelong experiences and memories with that person, strengthening the relationship/friendship between the both of you.

You don't even necessarily need to go travelling with someone else! The inspiration for this post came from when I was watching Nakita Johnson's vlog of her solo trip to Thailand. I found this video so empowering as it showed just how important doing things solely for you can be. Going on holiday by yourself can be the ultimate act of self love - you can go where you want, wake up when you want, do what you want, the list is endless!
I'd never thought of solo travel before I watched Nakita's video, but now it's something I've got my mind set on for the near future!

It Doesn't Have To Be Expensive.
The main reason people put off booking holidays is the excuse of not having enough money.
Booking to visit other parts of the world shouldn't been seen as spending, it should be seen as an investment. Experiencing different cultures, for no matter how long or how short, is an investment into yourself to be able to grow, put problems you may be facing into perspective, and teaches you appreciation and gratitude.

SkySkanner is the best website to use when searching for flights as it looks for the cheapest option from all travel websites and airlines. For hotels, I never book through travel websites which claim to find the best rate. I use these websites solely to find the best rated hotels, then book directly through that specific hotel's website as nine times out of ten it works out cheaper. Many hotels offer free cancellation too, meaning you don't have to pay until you get to the hotel. Therefore you can reserve your room and still have time to save until you go!

Spending money on travelling is the only thing which makes you richer. You can't afford NOT to.

What are your thoughts on travelling as an investment?

  3. I've never actually been travelling or even abroad for that matter, but I can definitely see how beneficial it is to travel often! It definitely opens up your world to a completely different mindset xx
